Studio ’09 Update 3 – Now with Engage ’09 Community Interactions

Jan82009

Get even more community interactions like Carousel, Bar Chart, and Tic-Tac-Toe.

I’m pleased to announce that today we released Studio ’09 Update 3, which features a major update to Engage ’09 with support for Community Interactions and 3 brand-new interaction types.

What’s new?

Along with the new interactions, Studio ’09 Update 3 also offers support for silent installations, and a few minor bug fixes.

The 3 brand-new interactions you can start using today in Engage ’09 are the following:

  • Flashcards
  • Flipbook
  • Stairstep

Here’s an example of what you can do with the new Flipbook Community Interaction:

This update and the new interactions are completely free for existing and new Studio ’09 customers!

What’s the likelihood of seeing some basic examples of these new features? What are some good uses for these tools in a manufacturing environment?

Hi,

Why there is no update available when I try to check for updates from Engage 09 or other Studio 09 products?

Is there any separate update 3 download available?

Thanks, Lawrence

I downloaded the three community interactions and can envision applications for each. With the flashcards, it appears the images and media can only be loaded on to the back side of the card. One of the applications I have in mind for the flashcards is being able to recognize a picture and act accordingly. Is there a way to put an image on the title page or front side of the flashcards?

Thanks

I cannot find the update. Can you email me a direct link to it? The path you provided (Help>Check for updates) doesn’t exist, or else I am having a tough time finding it!

Jess- what features are you looking to learn more about? Take a look at this blog’s archives, and you’ll see a number of recent entries by Tom highlighting new Studio ’09 product features.

Lawrence & Betsy- what are the exact version numbers you see in the About box for the product where you’re trying to check for updates?

Lawrence & Betsy- also, do you have a firewall enabled that might have blocked the check for updates?

I just realized that you meant to check within the actual program itself for updates. I was looking for the path on the Articulate website – thus my problem not finding it! Thanks for following up!

Great! Glad to hear you found it OK, Betsy!

When I click Help > Check for Updates from Engage, I get the message “There are no updates available at this time.” But my version is still 2.0.811.3020. Any thoughts on this?

Hi Anne- Do you have an antivirus or firewall application enabled that may be blocking the check for updates?

gabe // Posted at 10:32 am on January 14th, 2009
11

Hi Gabe – I turned off all my antivirus so that’s not it. As far as firewall, I don’t know how to get around that. Do you think we would need to have IT set the firewall to allow stuff from Articulate? I’m a bit clueless on these issues, as you can tell!

Anne // Posted at 10:37 am on January 14th, 2009

Hi Anne- Yes, if you don’t have control over your firewall, you’d want to check with your IT department to have them allow Articulate applications to check for updates. In the meantime, you can get to the update page directly here.

Are there any compatibility issues with upgrading to Articulate Presenter 09 for presentations created using an older version (including Engage and Quizmaker)?

Tracy Wright // Posted at 1:28 pm on January 14th, 2009

Hi Tracy- Studio ’09 products are backwards compatible with older versions. Here’s more info on Presenter ’09 backwards compatibility.

I have installed this update, but it appears to have wiped out my serial number information. I am now being asked whether I want to continue my “trial” of Articulagte or purchase it.

Is there any way to get the serial number back without re-entering it manually? I don’t recall my SN, off-hand, and I’m not curfrently working at a location where I have access to my paper files (where I hipefully saved it).

Thanks

Hi Ian- I just emailed you your serial numbers that we have in our records.

Can I not download community engage interactions without studio ’09? I currently have Articulate Presenter, Engage and Quizmkaer ’09. Please assist. thank you.

Hi Fay- In order to create an interaction using Community Interactions, you need Engage ’09 Update 3. The Flash output can be viewed by anyone in a web browser with Flash Player, as with any other Articulate-created content.

I am getting a messaage that no updates are available.

I am also interested in learning if anyone has come up with a way to link to a file rather than a url in Quizmaker. thank you.

tmbradb // Posted at 8:32 am on February 24th, 2009

If the file is online, you can link to it using the url for the file.

Justin Wilcox // Posted at 12:13 pm on February 24th, 2009

Because of company security policies and lms limitations, we cannot link to urls. I was hoping that this changed with 09 Quizmaker.

This has not changed with Quizmaker ’09. You might want to submit a feature request for this:

I’ve tried downloading the Flipbooks and Stairsteps interactions – there are no artpkg files in the folders. Also, Check for Updates says there are no updates available, so I can’t get to Update 3.

Hello Gabe,

We bought in January 09 Articulalte and I am happy we did. One question I have is where to store the updates like eg the flipbook or the stairstep. I could not found where to put the zipfile and unzip it.
Thanks for the support

Hi-

Sorry this is probably something obvious that I’m missing…where can I download additional community interactions besides the flipbook & stairstep?

Thanks!

Hi,
I installed Stairstep interaction and used it for creating 2 slides into a PowerPoint presentation (other slides are created by standard Engage interactions). I published the presentation with Articulate (web) but in both slides there are problems in visualizing the “next slide” button after animation completion (I checked the properties but are ok).
I have to go back and go forward some times to let the button appear. When the button appears, the font is different from the one relating to all the other buttons of “standard interaction” slides (I always use Comic Sans MS).
Has anyone experienced the same problem? Thanks in advance.

Hi Carla,

I apologize for the issues that you are having. Would you mind uploading your project files to me for review by using the method below?

Please create an Articulate Presenter package, then upload the zip file to our server. You can review how to do this here:

http://www.articulate.com/support/presenter09/?p=457

Upload the resulting zip file from your computer to our server using this upload form:

http://upload.articulate.com/

In the case subject, put Attention Brian Batt and the files will come straight to me.

In the description please include the number(s) of the slides that contain your particular issue(s). Please be as detailed as possible with your description.

We will attempt to diagnose what’s happening when we receive your upload.

In case you haven’t already seen them, there are new community interactions like Carousel, Bar Chart, and Tic-Tac-Toe available for free download.

Thanks for the new community interactions. I have been using Engage for over a year now but I just encountered a problem that has me stumped. I’m using the “Flipbook” interaction with 4 “pages” or tabs. For some reason the audio stalls on the second tab, after the first page turn. But if I click forward then return back to the same page it plays without stalling. I have tried reattaching, republishing, and even rebuilding the interaction from scratch but it continues to do the exact same thing: the audio stalls on the 2nd tab after about 6 seconds. The root files look fine but I’m not experienced enough to know if the xml has an error. I noticed that someone left a question in the community forum back in February describing the same thing but there were no replies. Any ideas?

I use te flip-page interaction frequently but am having trouble getting the “Next Slide” (re-labeled “Continue”) to display after the user turns all available pages. I’ve changed the properties numerous ways–can’t get it to diplay. Can you help?

Linda // Posted at 4:01 am on March 7th, 2011

Hi Linda,

Are you letting at least 1 second pass by for each step of the interaction? If you click-through the interaction too quickly, it will not register that certain steps have been seen.

If you continue to have issues, please submit a support case so that we can take a closer look into the issue:
