15 Tricked-Out E-learning Tips for Skating Through Your Next Project
This blog post is by Articulate Community Manager David Anderson.
“You can’t skate what you haven’t ate.” That phrase describes the learning moment that follows a gnarly wipe-out. It’s used humorously to celebrate mistakes and motivate skaters to get back on their boards.
In many ways, the same could be said for building e-learning courses. There’s always risk in learning something new or in asking for help. With a supportive community, you won’t have to go at it alone!
This week, spend some time with branching, sidebar videos, blank slides, using Engage differently or sharing feedback on other users’ projects. Because like skating, so much of what’s learned is through experience and interacting with others and that’s why the Articulate community is so valuable.
To get you started, we highlighted some cool tricks community members shared over the last week:
Notable tutorials:
- Flash pop-ups for e-learning!
- Working with multiple videos, syncing and timeline order in Quizmaker ’09
- Setting up branching so learners only see specific quizzes (Source files: download)
- How to produce a button with fake relief shadow effect in PowerPoint for your e-learning courses
Conversations in the community:
- Insert Flash video
- Adding sound effects to animations in Presenter ’09
- What industry sector do you work in?
- Possible to provide more than two options for feedback to a quiz?
- Using Web Objects to manage multiple movies
- Community members give a user feedback on her e-learning portfolio
- Modifying the rollover colors in Quizmaker ‘09
- Setting Up Conditional Branching in Quizmaker ’09

Quizmaker is it an E-learning tech? What can i do with it? Is it possible to use it to explain Math concepts to 10year old? Please i need to know. Your articles are great specially when i was looking at the Adding Content Slides to Quiz. It reminds me of the way people think, as in slide or sequential pictures.
Hi Osward – Quizmaker could be used in a math-based course. In fact, there are lots of ways to go about it. I put a very quick example together for you here: http://bit.ly/MathQuiz
If you have some content you can share, it would give us an idea of the types of interactions you’re interested in creating. I’d be more than happy to put some more specific examples together. If you’re interested, please post to our forums where other folks can also help out: http://community.articulate.com

Speaking of sharing projects with the community, how exactly do I bundle and share them for everyone to view?
Love it!
@Katie- The best way to share projects is in the forums: http://community.articulate.com Just start a new thread, tell folks what you’re sharing and attach to the post. There’s a 2mb limit for uploads, so you might want to use something like Dropbox to host it. If that’s not possible, send one of us a note and we’ll help you getting the files posted.
