Regarding the talking avatars in Laura’s Screenr, I too discovered Xtranormal (www.xtranormal.com) just last week, and played around with it over the weekend. She used the on-line version, but they also have a desktop version you can download. I think that the rendering times faster and resulting quality better with the desktop version. Both are free, but come with a very limited menu of characters and scenes. However, buying more is not very expensive, and once you buy them, you have unlimited ongoing use of them.

I’ve only been playing around with it – but that how to learn, right – and I haven’t yet integrated it with any elearning. I’ll warn you, this is politically biased.
