Guru Honorable Mention: Motivating Your Associates by Stephanie Harnett
This post by Articulate Community Manager Jeanette Brooks features one of the Honorable Mentions from the 2010 Articulate Guru Awards. To see other award-winning courses from the Guru Awards, check out the posts here.
You might recognize Stephanie Harnett from all the innovative rapid e-learning tips she shares via Screenr. Or maybe you know her as the ultra-creative Articulate user who built an amazing Articulate-powered website last year. (Speaking of, did you know she now has another site layout, also built with Articulate tools?)
Well, true to form, Stephanie submitted an eye-catching course for the recent Articulate Guru Awards, and it won an Honorable Mention. Take a look:

What wowed the judges in Stephanie’s course? The Guru judges liked how the course opening sets the stage with effective synch’d animations. And the judges felt that the course really shines when the scenario-based content begins. After meeting the characters via a well-designed Engage Labeled Graphic, you get right into the scenario challenge. Hyperlinks and a creative approach to sidebar video allow the learner to gather ideas and input from the characters. The judges also liked the way Stephanie provides learners with choices and customized feedback as they make their way through the branched learning path.
Want to learn a little more about how Stephanie created the sidebar video in this course? She explains how in this screencast:

Stephanie I like this a lot! I do a lot of similar courses, and this was really an inspiration. Thanks for sharing.
Great work Stephanie! I love how you used the sidebar to display the video and captions. Great use of real estate.
Can you share how you got the “click the Ask button” to play the video in the presenter panel?
Hi Heather. Sorry this took so long to reply too – the hyperlink on the ask button is going to the next slide and it is on that slide where the presenter is changed (in slide properties) giving the illusion that it is actually triggering the video directly.
I loved this. I feel inspired now!
Hello Heather – Can you share how you changed the label backgroud colour to black (text is white) in the Hear’s The Team label interaction? White seems to be the default colour . . . Thanks for your response!
