IMS Finalist for 2007 Learning Impact Awards

The IMS Global Learning Consortium has announced its list of 25 finalists for the 2007 Learning Impact Awards:

The IMS Global Learning Consortium (GLC) today announced 25 finalists for the new LIA Awards recognizing high impact use of technology in support of learning. … The LIA awards program is unique in that it recognizes learning innovation both in terms of the technology used and the educational organization that has utilized it for high impact, capturing the essential elements of innovation, adoption, and learning.

I’m proud to say that Articulate, along with one of our customers, Jefferson County Public Schools in Louisville, Kentucky, is a finalist in the LIA Awards. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: It’s truly a great feeling to know that our software is helping to further the education of adults and children around the world.

JCPS, among the largest school districts in the U.S., has implemented an e-learning program for its 98,000 students, 5,700 teachers, and 157 schools.

To motivate its challenged and at-risk students, JCPS launched an e-learning pilot program in 2000. The authoring tools originally selected were difficult to use and expensive, and the resulting products were not engaging enough for the students.

JCPS then discovered and has since standardized on Articulate software, and the district’s e-learning program is now an overwhelming success. Student progress is also tracked in the district’s LMS via SCORM.

Students who might otherwise fall behind in a classroom setting can now work at their own pace, controlling their course time with a click of the mouse. There is no lost instruction due to absenteeism because Articulate technology tracks progress and enables students to start where they left off in their last session.
