Quizmaker File Management
So you’ve been using Articulate Presenter for a while now and you have it mastered. You understand what happens when you create a new file, record some audio via the Articulate menu, then publish to Flash.
Then along comes Articulate QuizMaker and suddenly you have a whole new application and directory structure to get under your belt. But never fear, the Word of Mouth blog is here!
When you first open QuizMaker or create a new quiz, you’re prompted to name the quiz:
Next, you’ll be shown the three easy steps involved in creating your Flash-based quiz:
Your new quiz opens and you’re ready to specify Quiz Properties and begin Adding Questions.
Your quiz will not be saved until one of the following actions occur:
- You select Save or Save As from the File menu
- You press Ctrl-S on your keyboard
- You select Open Quiz from the File menu
- You press Ctrl-O on your keyboard
- You publish your quiz using any of the 5 publish options
Note that you must have at least one question in your quiz before you can save it.
When you do one of the above actions, you will be prompted to save your quiz:
The default location for new .AQM files is the following:
C:Documents and Settings<username>My DocumentsMy Articulate QuizMaker Quizzes
You can save your .AQM in this location or select a different one of your liking. When you save your .AQM file, you’ll also notice a new directory created with it: the media folder.
The media folder is named after your quiz file (e.g., “Articulate Products – media”). The media folder will contain any images, .SWF files, or other external resources you’ve included in your quiz.
When you’re ready to publish, begin by selecting the publish option of your choice:
In all cases except Publish to Word (which will create a new Word document that you’ll need to save on your own), you will be prompted to specify a Publish location:
The default path is the same as it is for your .AQM file:
C:Documents and Settings<username>My DocumentsMy Articulate QuizMaker Quizzes
You can publish to this location or pick your own.
After publishing, you’ll be prompted whether or not you want to view your quiz. If you’ve selected to Publish for Articulate Presenter, you’ll be given the additional option to View .AQP File.
All the files needed to view your Flash-based quiz will be generated in a new output directory. Like the media directory, this one will be named after your quiz (e.g., “Articulate Products – output”).
If you opted to Publish for Articulate Presenter, your .AQP file — the file needed to integrate your quiz with Articulate Presenter — will also reside in your output directory.
Similar to Articulate Presenter and its project folder, Articulate QuizMaker requires that you keep your source .AQM file alongside your media directory. Keep those two items handy and you can generate as many output directories as you’d like — to be used wherever your heart desires, be it within Articulate Presenter, in your LMS, or on a Web site.
Use index.html or quizmaker.html to launch your quiz.

Hello,
Thank you for the demo piece.
I would be grateful if you could direct me to the procedure of uploading a quiz to the web.
Lets say that I would like to upload quiz1 at multilingual.gr.
What do I do?
Do I have to upload “quiz1 media” or/and “quiz1 output” or/and qti and/or quiz1.aqm?
Which one(s) of the above files do I have to upload?
Do I have to upload them in a new folder, for example in http://www.multilingual.gr/quiz1/ (folder)?
Thanking you for your time in advance,
Natalia Youchanova
Hi Natalia-
You should upload the entire contents of the “quiz1 – output” folder. So yes, your example would be correct. That’s the recommended approach.
I finally found the detailed information I have been looking for after a frustrating several days trying to find the .AQP files. I am using your product “Trial” and only have 3 days remaining.
Where is this detailed information available with your product? I didn’t see it in help or in any of the demos.
Thank you

There’s a drop down menu on the right for the other products. Yo can always leverage the user community, as well. This is especially true if you have more questions about how to use the product on specific projects.
I have been uploading the output file folder with all of its contents to my website but am not having any luck in getting my quiz to work. I only get a blank quiz, with no questions, colors etc. The basic shape of the quiz appears but it is like the content is not connecting. http://www.ancorafinancial.net/newquiz1 – output/quizmaker.html
What am I doing wrong?
