ELearningUncoveredArticulateLooking for a practical resource that’ll have you quickly building high-quality courses with the Articulate tools? Check out the new book called E-Learning Uncovered: Articulate Studio ’09. It’s written by Tanya Coomes, Diane Elkins, and Desirée Ward of Alcorn Ward & Partners, Inc. They’re a trio of hands-on rapid e-learning designers with a passion for sharing their knowledge with others.

You can get the book directly from E-Learning Uncovered (receive $10 off with coupon code PCS4G6DB), or you can order it from Amazon.

I had a chance to chat with Tanya about the book during the recent Learning Solutions 2010 conference, and here’s what I learned:

Why’d you decide to write the book?

TanyaCoomes“Though Articulate Studio’s very easy to use, we’ve found there are a ton of great features that many users don’t know about. For example, we get asked all the time about the best way to move a project from one location to another. The answer is that there’s a great feature called the Articulate Package that bundles everything up and makes it super easy to move the files you need. A lot of users aren’t aware of helpful stuff like this.

“We want to help people learn and leverage the features of Articulate Studio, so they can get better and faster at what they do.”

What kinds of things does the book cover?

“We definitely take a practical angle. If you’ve ever looked at a dialog box in the software and thought, ‘I wonder what this checkbox is for,’ then this is the book for you. We know you know how to mark a checkbox — we want to help you decide whether you should mark it.

“Besides procedural how-tos, you’ll also find hints and tips that’ll help save you time and avoid common challenges. And we even include some great advice about how to make your courses more engaging.”

Who can benefit from the book?

“Really, anyone who uses the Articulate tools will find the book helpful. But we wrote it especially with new users in mind. We wanted it to be simple enough that you can read it cover-to-cover, but robust enough that you can use it as a reference to look up specific information when you need it.”

Want to Find Out More?

The authors are offering Word of Mouth Blog readers a free excerpt of some of their top tips from the book. You can also download Chapter 9, Managing Slide Properties, by visiting the E-Learning Uncovered website. You can view the book’s table of contents there, too.

Great job, Tanya, Diane, and Desirée. Congratulations!

Thanks for the information about Articulate Package. I did not know about that even though I’ve used Articulate for several months now. That solved the problem of sharing files!

Hi Greg-

It looks like the Elearning Uncovered site has changed (this post is nearly 2 years old), so you may need to order the book from Amazon now (this page links to the book on Amazon.com).

Hello,
We did stop selling the book directly. We found that Amazon was providing a better price on both the book and the shipping than we could, so it didn’t make sense to charge customers more from our site. If you want to use the coupon, I believe it may still work if you go to https://www.createspace.com/3440867.

However, I’d check out Amazon first, since you may save more than $10 by buying it from them. I believe their current discount is $8, and then shipping may be cheaper as well.

Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any other questions. dpelkins[at]artisanelearning[dot]com
